Jay and Dianne Heckathorne are blessed to be the owners of Dogwood Bicycles.

Dogwood Bicycles is a bicycle retail store located just outside the city limits of Palestine Texas and has been doing business in the Palestine and surrounding area for over 11 years. Besides retail, repairs are also a huge part of the business and they service all makes and models.

The bicycle shop was built and opened in 1995 by Chad & Pam Rodgers. It started out as just a small, one room shop and was added onto as the years went by. During the year of 1999 and early 2000, Chad had been doing business as an “Appointment Only” business and was about to close the doors.

In March of 2000, Dianne was looking for a new hobby and made an appointment to see what bikes the shop had to offer. She learned that not only was the bicycle shop closing, but there was also a home on the property and the property was for sale. Chad had already cleared out a lot of the inventory and was about to close the doors for good. Dianne thought if nothing else, she could buy the property for the home, instead of renting an apartment. Later, after talking with Chad and Pam, an agreement was made for her to purchase the home, the shop, and all inventory.

Dianne and her parents had their grand opening of full time business on April 1, 2000. Chad and Pam taught them all they could and continued to help out for several months following. Dianne has worked in some type of maintenance field all of her life and picked up bicycle maintenance quickly. She had not ridden a bike since she was a child and had never worked on one since working on her own when she was young. Chad did a great job teaching her bicycle maintenance and she is now a pro in that field.

In August of 2004, Dianne and Jay Heckathorne were married and now they both have their part in running the business. Jay has a full time career in another field while Dianne runs the shop full time and is one of the bicycle mechanics.

In October of 2005 Jay and Dianne became producers for the Disciples Cross which consists of them personally making the Disciples Cross necklaces. It is a great ministry and has greatly added to the business.

The business is flourishing and continues to grow each year and as it does... Jay and Dianne give all the Glory to God.
